One of the first patterns I ever designed, the Dahlia Headband is cute, feminine, and FAST. (Get the pattern for the matching cowl here.) Scroll down for the FREE pattern!
Inspiration:
I designed this pattern because I wanted to wear something warm and cozy, but I didn’t really want to fuss around with a beanie. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good beanie, but I wear my hair in a bun or a ponytail almost every day. I hated having to take my hair down in order to put on a beanie! Thus, the Dahlia Headband. It keeps my ears warm and is cute enough to distract from my crazy ponytail hair. I mean, look at that texture! It is beautiful, but don’t let it scare you! The Dahlia Headband works up quickly and is made from a rectangle with only single and double crochet stitches – perfect for a beginner crocheter! Yarn:
The yarn I chose for the Dahlia Headband is one of my favorites – Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick. This is seriously one of my favorite category 6 Super Bulky yarns. It’s soft, easy to care for, and comes in about a million colorways. Solids, stripes, variegated, you name it. They even have it in a wool-free version if you’re sensitive to wool or prefer vegan fibers. I’ve made the Dahlia Headband in a ton of different colors! Pictured below is the Dahlia Headband in the color Wheat.
Techniques:
The Dahlia Headband is made from one rectangle that is seamed to create a tube. The rectangle in created using the grit stitch, which is responsible for its lovely texture! The grit stitch is a one row repeating pattern, but it’s just made up of single and double crochets! After the rectangle is finished, it is then seamed by slip stitching the ends together. That’s it! It works up in about 30-45 minutes.
